Russia’s first simulation operating room MVS at the Vishnevsky National Research Medical Center of Surgery

The country’s first simulation operating room was opened on the basis of the methodological Accreditation and Simulation Center (MASC) and fully corresponds to the real one.

The operating room is built using cleanroom technology and is equipped with modern simulation equipment – the EIDOS laparoscopic system with a robot simulator, dummy simulators, training devices, electronic phantoms, the da Vinci robot-assisted surgical system, as well as the MVS software and hardware complex.

All conditions have been created here for practicing practical skills in a safe simulated environment for doctors, graduate students, and residents in the specialties: surgery, endoscopy, X-ray endovascular diagnostics and treatment, etc.

In addition to practicing traditional surgical skills, at the A.V. Vishnevsky Institute, in a training simulation operating room using MVS equipment, future and present doctors will learn how to video record operations, work with a video archive of operations, set up visualization, conduct Live Surgery sessions, and also get acquainted with operating room performance indicators. Video recording of operations allows future doctors to undergo training, receive structured feedback from mentors, work on mistakes, and, therefore, improve the effectiveness, quality and safety of surgical care provided.

The creation of the first simulation operating room in Russia is an important and promising direction in the training of a new generation of surgeons – future technological leaders.

Today we have opened the first simulation digital operating room in Russia within the framework of the project "Simulation Clinic – the way to surgery". Such an operating room is very important for medical training: residents, young doctors can come here and practice their surgical skills in performing various surgical interventions. Thanks to this project, surgeons, anesthesiologists and intensive care specialists in the same operating room can interact and improve their teamwork, which, of course, increases their further effectiveness in the operating room. Modern simulators and modern equipment make it possible to practice a variety of less invasive high-tech interventions. Starting from abdominal surgery, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, hysterectomy, colectomy, ending with surgical interventions on the Da Vinci robot that we have. In any hospital with such a simulation center, surgical activity will increase and the growth of complications will decrease.

The resident students come to us after graduation. Our goal and task at the center is not only to teach the profession, the communication skills that a surgeon should possess, but, first of all, to teach teamwork when you work shoulder to shoulder, but even if with your back, you realize that you also have a friend behind you. Working in a simulation operating room teaches this best. When there are two teams of surgeons, a team of anesthesiologists, their coherence is important here. A person should respect the person next to him, understand that if the other is wrong, then you need to tactfully stop or help him. That's what teamwork is all about. She teaches young doctors to work well and efficiently, for the result and the benefit of the patient.

Our simulation center is equipped with the most modern equipment and is important in preparing residents for accreditation. During the year, future doctors, along with clinical work, have the opportunity to improve their professional skills on simulation equipment that allows them to simulate a number of the most difficult surgical situations. It should be noted that the simulation equipment is constantly evolving. If we used to deal with simple simulators, today they are multifunctional robot dummies or a whole system that allows us to develop the team skills of entire teams of anesthesiologists and surgeons
